Removable partial and complete denture
A removable partial denture or bridge is often made up of replacement teeth linked to a pink or gum-coloured plastic foundation, which is joined by a metal framework that maintains the denture in place in the mouth. Partial dentures are used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. A fixed (permanent) bridge replaces one or more teeth by crowning the teeth on each side of the gap and attaching artificial teeth to them. This “bridge” is then cemented into place. A partial denture not only fills the gaps left by lost teeth, but it also keeps other teeth from shifting position. A precise partial denture is removable and contains inside attachments rather than external ones. A precise partial denture is detachable and is held in place by internal attachments rather than clasps that adhere to the neighbouring crowns. This appears to be a more natural-looking appliance.
Complete dentures are classified as either “traditional” or “instant.” A typical denture is ready for implantation in the mouth around eight to twelve weeks after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has begun to heal. Immediate dentures, as opposed to traditional dentures, are created ahead of time and can be placed as soon as the teeth are extracted. As a result, the user is not need to remain toothless during the healing period. However, bones and gums decrease over time, particularly during the healing period after tooth extraction. As a result, one drawback of instant dentures over conventional dentures is that they require more modifications to fit properly during the healing process and should be considered as a temporary option until traditional dentures can be manufactured.
What is the average lifespan of removable partial and complete denture?
According to statistics, complete dentures endure between 5 and 10 years, while partials might last up to 15 years. During this period, both your mouth and your dentures may change significantly, resulting in an incorrect fit and an unattractive look.
